What is naloxone?

Naloxone is a medication designed to rapidly reverse an opioid overdose. It is an opioid antagonist—meaning that it binds to opioid receptors and can reverse and block the effects of other opioids. It can very quickly restore normal respiration to a person whose breathing has slowed or stopped as a result of overdosing with heroin or any other opioid medication.

Can you get high from taking naloxone?

No. Naloxone cannot be abused. It is only used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

Can I give myself naloxone?

No, treatment of suspected opioid overdose must be performed by someone other than the affected person.

Is naloxone addictive?

No, naloxone has no potential for abuse or overdose.

What are the ingredients of naloxone nasal spray?

Active ingredient: naloxone hydrochloride. Inactive ingredients: benzalkonium chloride, disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate, sodium chloride, hydrochloric acid and purified water.
